My Ántonia (AN-tə-nee-ə) is a novel published in 1918 by American writer Willa Cather.
The novel tells the stories of an orphaned boy from Virginia, Jim Burden, and the elder daughter in a family of Bohemian immigrants, Ántonia Shimerda, who are each brought as children to be pioneers in Nebraska towards the end of the 19th century. The first year in the very new place leaves strong impressions on both children, affecting them for life.
This novel is considered Cather's first masterpiece. Cather was praised for bringing the American West to life and making it personally interesting.
Title

Last week, I was invited to provide testimony before the Senate Majority Policy Committee of Pennsylvania. The topic was, “Regulatory Reform and Cutting the Red Tape in Pennsylvania.” I’m currently working on a paper with Reeve Bull on the topic.
Even if politics doesn’t line up for regulatory process reform very often, and it looks that way right now for the split government of Pennsylvania, it is encouraging to see at least some policymakers interested in learning about different policy approaches that can be used to reduce red tape. Virginia’s approach addresses two key failure points in the regulatory process: 1) failure in the design of individual regulations and 2) failure in the management of accumulated regulations.
The first failure point has to do with crafting new regulations. When an agency is considering a new regulation, the fundamental question to ask is, “Does it do more good than harm?” Regulatory economic analysis ensures that the answer is yes for new regulations.
